Hello. I am John Lloyd Bennett, LCSW.
I am traditional talk therapist with over 20 years of experience. I have extensive training in individual and family therapy, as well as insight-building treatment for trauma. I'm here to listen and help you along your way. In addition to English, I am fluent and conduct sessions in Spanish and German.
Psychodynamic Therapy (also called psychoanalytic therapy) is a quest to find meaning, authenticity and wholeness. It is a time-tested and now strongly research-supported path to permanent change. Unlike many other therapies and all medications, people who have had psychodynamic therapy tend to continue to improve even long after therapy is over.
Psychodynamic therapy teaches you to know yourself and to connect deeply to the best in other people, too. The insight you gain in psychodynamic therapy becomes your guide along a new, chosen path. Healthy, supportive relationships also help propel you. Finding the right companionship and cultivating mutual support is key for the journey and psychodynamic therapy helps you do just this.
Our relationships define who we are in life. As a dialogic therapist I am committed to helping both you and your loved ones find and share your authentic voices. Listening and being heard form the core of happy and supportive relationships. My approach is to facilitate an environment that supports multiple viewpoints and finds creative solutions when there is crisis or stagnation.
EMDR is an innovative, research-backed psychotherapy for anxiety and trauma. EMDR pairs eye movements or other gentle stimulus with guided processing of anxieties, stressful situations or traumatic memories. This method leads to de-escalation and reintegration of previously stressful or traumatic memories or experiences.
EMDR is a gentle and effective treatment. It matches or surpasses the success rates of many other anxiety, stress or trauma therapies. Additionally, studies show that people who start EMDR therapy, unlike many cognitive or behavioral therapy methods, are highly likely to complete a full course of treatment. Best of all, EMDR leads to long-term symptom relief, well beyond when therapy is over.
